What is RSE and Health Education?
Since September 2020, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education has been compulsory for all pupils who are in secondary education. At Compass, this curriculum is delivered through our Life Studies lessons.
Children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and it is important that our pupils have the knowledge and understanding of relationships, sex and health education to be able to keep themselves safe and develop skills required to create a happy and successful adult life.
At Compass, pupils benefit from 2 Life studies lessons per week, this is further enhanced over the year by targeted sessions and Deep Learning Day opportunities which may address topics including: Online Safety, Mental Health Awareness and Personal Safety.

What if my child requires additional support?
At Compass, we understand that the content addressed within this subject area may be of a sensitive nature for some of our pupils due to identified SEND needs and/or personal circumstances.
If you feel that your child may require additional intervention or targeted support in a specific field, this can be implemented to ensure that all pupils have access to an age appropriate and inclusive curriculum.
If necessary, referrals may be placed with other agencies including: the school nurse, Cornerhouse, Refresh and CAMHs.
What is our curriculum offer
Parents/carers are welcome to make an appointment to visit the school to view the specific resources used to support pupils’ within this curriculum area. Alternatively, arrangements can be made to email a copy of the resources used to view at your convenience.

Additional Information
Right for withdrawal
Parents/carers will not be able to withdraw their child from any aspect of Relationships Education or Health Education. Parents may withdraw their child (following discussion with the school) from any or all aspects of Sex Education, other than those which form part of the science curriculum.
